Common questions
The game won’t install or update
- Open Google Play and check for pending updates.
- Make sure you have at least 50 MB of free storage on your device.
- Restart your phone and try again — this clears most install errors.
- If Play Store reports a specific error code, search that code in the Play Help Centre — it’s almost always a Play-side issue rather than a Shoji-side issue.
The game feels sluggish or stutters
Shoji is designed to run on modest hardware, but a heavy background process can still cause stutter. Try:
- Close other apps and reopen Shoji.
- Check that battery saver mode isn’t aggressively throttling the game (Settings → Battery).
- Restart your phone.
If it still stutters, please email us with your phone make, model, and Android version — we’ll investigate.
I lost my high score
High scores are stored locally on your device only. They are removed if you uninstall the game, clear app data, or move to a new phone. There is no cloud backup, so the high score does not transfer between devices.
How do I turn off haptics?
Open the in-game settings (gear icon on the main menu) and toggle “Haptics” off. The game will become completely silent and still.
How do I report a bug?
Email shoji@cyber-jack.uk and include:
- Your phone make and model.
- Android version (Settings → About phone).
- Shoji version (in-game settings → About).
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- A screenshot or short video if the bug is visual.
Will there be more game modes / shapes / themes?
Maybe. Shoji is a small project I work on between bigger things, and the goal is to keep it calm and small rather than feature-bloated. If there’s something you genuinely miss, drop me a line and I’ll consider it.
